Local Art, Organic Syrup Collide at Three Queens

Three Queens Organic, located in the Oak Park Arts District, is owned by resident Christine Fisher, who also has a farm in Wisconsin where the syrup is tapped.

Sometimes a business idea comes organically. That's the case with Three Queens Organic, a new art gallery in the Oak Park Arts District, which grew out of two far-away happenings: a love for art developed in Europe, and a discovery of maple trees on a farm in Wisconsin.  Oak Park resident Christine Fisher opened the gallery in April, and said she loves the space she has at 140 Harrison St. Besides local art, Fisher also sells organic maple syrup "It’s eclectic and funky," she said. "It’s a space where I can do my work, too." Her love for art developed when her family was living in Europe, where her children's schools had fantastic art programs. Arts District Businesses Present 'What's Blooming' Festival This Weekend

Check out live performances, special events and more at businesses along Harrison Street on May 17-18.

There's been a few new businesses blooming in the Oak Park Arts District lately, and this weekend you can enjoy the district at the "What's Blooming" festival. Oak Park Arts District Lights Up Friday and Saturday

The Annual Holiday Lights night on Harrison Street brings bands, openings and special sales on Friday and Saturday.

The cafes, boutiques and galleries will glow on Friday evening in the Oak Park Arts District on Harrison Street for Holiday Lights, the district's annual shopping and open house event. Holiday Lights kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 and runs until 10 p.m. Can't make opening night? No worries, Holiday Lights will continue on Saturday too, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The boutiques and galleries that line the street will be offering special entertainment and sales to draw customers looking to get started on their holiday shopping lists. Musical entertainment will be provided at The Eastgate Cafe, The Buzz Cafe and Val’s Halla. Property Owner, Contractor Ticketed After Building Collapse

Unpermitted work led to the failure of support beams, officials say.

The landlord of a building in the Oak Park Arts District that collapsed will be fined by the village, officials said. Chris Kleronomos, who owns the property from 201 – 211 Harrison Street, and contractor Built Max Construction will be cited with "a range of violations, including doing work beyond the scope of a permit and failing to take steps to compensate for the effect of the unpermitted work, which contributed to the parapet wall failure," according to a news release issued Monday. One person suffered minor injuries after Wednesday's partial building collapse, when a brick facade atop two storefronts, the vacant building on the southwest corner of Harrison Street and Lombard Avenue and above Prodigy Glass Works, crumbled and sent …

Three Charged After Oak Park Drug Bust

Police say operation ran from Harrison Street apartment.

Three young men have been arrested after police broke up a drug operation headquartered in an Oak Park apartment, authorities said. The bust took place Thursday in the 0-100 block of Harrison Street, where police say they learned a 17-year-old Pawel Borowski-Beszta was trying to run a coke and pot ring, one backed by firepower. Recovered at the apartment were a .40-caliber handgun, ammunition and two safes containing 126 grams of marijuana, 29.7 grams of cocaine, $1,000 in cash, a money counting machine and scales. The drugs were packaged for sale, police said. Borowski-Beszta, of Oak Park, was charged with several drug and weapons felonies. Two other men, brothers Ryan Reyes, 28, and Christopher Reyes, 23, were charged with misdemeanor …
