Commercial Shot in Forest Park Uses Randolph Street Barber Shop, River Forest Home

We spotted a film crew using Randolph Street Barber Shop as a location on Thursday for an herbicide commercial that will air in North Dakota. Go figure.

A Naperville-based marketing company was in town on Thursday shooting a commercial that will air in western markets for a Bayer brand crop herbicide. We snapped a picture of the crew setting up at Randolph Street Barber Shop, 201 Marengo Ave., today around 11:30 a.m. According to Jim Meyers, creative director at Rhea and Kaiser, the footage shot today will be used to promote Bayer's herbicides in Montana and North Dakota. "Yeah, wheat county," Meyers said. When finished, the commercial will feature the barbershop and a home in River Forest, but will be made to look like they were shot out west. "We're shooting around Chicago now and then we'll use already shot footage from North Dakota later," Meyers said. The commercial will air only in …

Russell Crowe Swings By Oak Park

Kiwi tough guy Russell Crowe was bicycling through Oak Park on his way to Chicago over the weekend when he made a quick cameo at Circle Theatre. Russell, apparently staying in the Naperville area during shooting of the next installment of the Superman series, dropped in on the theater building, 1010 W. Madison St., on Saturday. According to Wednesday Journal, Crowe "became familiar with Circle Theatre through a colleague in the movie business, Oak Park's Catherine Ferraro, who worked as a double for actors on different film sets." The pair hit it off and remained friends, prompting a friendship that later resulted in a $50,000 donation to the theatre group — and Saturday's surprise appearance.
