There's Still Time to Run for Local Elections

School, parks, library and township contests on ballot in April in addition to village board.

The Oak Park-River Forest area may have just gone through an election. But now it's time to gear up for the local ones in the spring. In addition to village board, there will be other contests on the ballot April 9, and residents interested in serving on any boards still have time to collect signatures before the filing deadline. Packets containing petitions and other election information are available at the respective administrative offices or on the State Board of Elections website. Filing dates are from Dec. 17 to Dec. 24. Slates have already announced for Oak Park and River Forest municipal races, to be held on the same day. Here are other contests on the ballot. Public Invited to Forum on Facility Sharing Between Park District and District 97

This event, hosted by the Park District of Oak Park and School District 97, begins at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.

The public is invited to attend a community forum beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall tonight to discuss a proposed plan for Oak Park Elementary School District 97 and the Park District of Oak Park to share facilities. The plan includes the construction of a new administrative building in the parking lot south of Village Hall, which would become the new home of both the school district and the park district. Also proposed is for District 97's maintenance operations to relocate to the village's public works department building, and the park district's maintenance operations to be moved to District 97's warehouse space. Back in 2005, the Park District of Oak Park sought a referendum that raised property taxes in exchange for the promise of more robust park offerings throughout the village. Six years and more than a dozen master plans later, renovations for many local parks are either underway or nearing completion. This is the fifth examination of the progress that the Park District has accomplished. As in our other stories, we'll add up the totals for how much the renovations have cost.
