Gail Zarbin has been in private practice for 20 years counseling individuals, couples, and children. Gail enjoys being a mother of two daughters, ages 16 and 11, who were adopted when they were infants from China. Gail is available to meet with you or your child for as many sessions as you find helpful. Parenting is the only job that requires no training and yet it is the most important job you will ever do.

Moms want to have the kind of relationship that their child will choose to talk about their daily life and feelings. Gail teaches parents how to listen so that their child will want to share. Parents learn strategies to respond with less frustration, have fewer arguments and increase cooperation. It is important to set limits that will teach children consequences instead of punishing out of frustration. Children need to learn different social and emotional skills at each age and developmental stage. Gail teaches parents to help their child improve their skills to make friends, respond to bullying or teasing, and resist peer pressure. Parenting a child who has ADD, Asperger’s, or is twice-exceptional will present additional challenges.

Counseling can help with the stress of infertility and family planning choices, concerns of being a single parent, co-parenting with differences, mediating a divorce, helping your child cope with divorce, or becoming a blended family.

Gail Zarbin is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American Fertility Association, and RESOLVE. Gail presents at schools in Oak Park, a series of seminars to “Increase Your Skills to Parent Your Child” for parenting concerns for pre-school through high school, as well as sex education for middle school and high school students.
