Oak Park Library Lobby Updates to Begin This Week

The project is expected to last about six weeks. When finished, members will have an improved check-out experience and better security.

The Oak Park Public Library this week will begin the reconfiguration of the main library lobby, a project expected to last about six weeks, according to the library's website.

The lobby reconfiguration, according to the library's website, will include the following updates:

  • A new dedicated, multipurpose space for events, gatherings and other creative displays.
  • Better customer service. A new layout moves more library staff out from behind their desks and onto the floor to serve you as soon as you enter our doors.
  • An improved check-out experience. More (from 4 to 8), easier to use check-out stations with more self-service functions (such as email yourself chck-out receipts and pay any fines).
  • Tighter digital security for all library materials.
  • More green Main Library building features, with new energy-efficient lighting and security gates

Local architectural firm Nagle Hartray’s detailed drawings are available on the library website. General contractor Bulley & Andrews will manage construction. Leads on both teams are Oak Park residents.

Most of the work will take place before the library is open to the public. During the project, about half of the lobby will be closed.

Access will remain available to Children’s Services, rest rooms and elevators. Book displays (children’s, fiction and non-fiction) will be temporarily relocated to the first, second and third floors.
