What Are My Options for Overnight Parking in Oak Park?

You decide to stay the night in Oak Park—What can you do about parking? A refresher on parking from the village.

You're visiting the vibrant, wonderful and activity-filled Village of Oak Park and decide to spend the night. So what do you do with your car?

Having a car in an urban area is almost like having a pet. Depending on where you are, you have to move it, feed a meter or let someone know where it is as you're turn in for the night.

The Village of Oak Park issues parking passes that override posted parking restrictions to provide short-term relief under specific circumstances, according to the village website. Village officials earlier this week discussed the overnight parking ban in Oak Park, and will look into why it's in place.

"The quantity of parking passes is subject to limitations. A parking pass applicant is expected to identify the purpose of the request, vehicle and driver information. Parking passes are not issued to vehicles with outstanding parking tickets and requests must be made through dedicated parking telephones lines."

Here are some of the parking guidelines that might be helpful for anyone looking to park overnight (you can also look at the map above for daytime parking info):

Overnight Passes

Overnight passes are issued for on-street parking in areas not designated as permit zones. An overnight pass is issued for only one night and will be issued to the same car only five times in a calendar year. If you need an overnight pass for more than one night, you must call each night. An overnight pass does not allow daytime parking or override daytime restrictions that may exist. To receive an overnight parking pass call 708.358.7275, option 2, between 8 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Extended Passes

Extended passes for on-street parkingmay be available to residents and visitors in areas not designated as permit zones. An extended pass can be given for three to 15 days at a time, but only 30 days per year, per vehicle. For more information call 708.358.7275, option 4, from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday

Garage Overnight Passes

Overnight parking is available in the Holley Court Parking Garage on Ontario Street just east of Harlem Avenue, and in The Avenue Parking Garage on North Boulevard, just east of Oak Park Avenue. Fees are $15 per day. These locations also can be a convenient option for vacation or guest parking.
