Midtown Athletic Club Plans Major Renovations

Midtown Athletic Club in Oak Park to introduce new equipment to U.S., revamp club layout and programming.

Midtown Athletic Club in Oak Park is kicking off a $250,000 transformation of the club this month to incorporate a new layout, expanded programming and training options, and advanced equipment and flooring that hasn't yet been introduced in the United States, according to a news release from Midtown Athletic Club.

The two main renovation highlights include the installation of the OMNIA training system by Technogym and high-tech flooring by Pavigym. Meaning "all things" in Latin, OMNIA is a four-sided piece of equipment that allows a coach to provide instruction for up to six individuals working on the same apparatus to improve strength, endurance, stability, flexibility, coordination and speed, according to the release.

The Pavigym system features iPad-controlled LED lighting below the floor to lead users through unique sequences of movements. Individuals can use pre-programmed exercises to train by themselves, and coaches can program customized workouts for individuals and groups to create the ultimate fun and effective fitness experience.

“Pavigym is like the classic floor game Twister, only in digital form, and with the sole purpose of giving you a full body workout,” Midtown’s Head Fitness Coach Brian Lyons, a former NFL, NBA, MLB and NCAA fitness consultant said in a statement. “OMNIA and Pavigym together will be total game-changers in the fitness industry because they use the latest technology and bring the fun back into living a healthy lifestyle.”

Both new training systems will be major components of the club’s expanded fitness programming options, which will focus on small group training and sports performance training targeted at young athletes.

“We want to continue to foster a strong sense of community at our club, and be a place where you get fit with friends who encourage and spur each other on,” Midtown Oak Park General Manager Kate London said in a statement. “Group training will continue to be a popular trend in our industry because it facilitates a social interaction that leads to a healthier lifestyle, both inside and out.”
