Musicians from Oak Park have found fame & fortune, locally & nationally - sometimes even internationally - for many decades. The long list includes Mimi (Demetrios) Betinis, Lane Brody, Mike Gorman, Cliff Johnson, Ludacris, Marc Okubo, John Pazdan, Landon Pigg, Mick Rain, plus siblings Eleanor & Matthew Friedberger.
Many of these aforementioned musicians have made names for themselves in the "Power Pop" category in the bands Off Broadway & Pezband.
Pezband has been a band - off & on - for over 40 years. The core of this Power Pop band has always been the power trio of Mimi Betinis, John Pazdan & Mick Rain.
Mimi, John & Mick just finished a successful tour of Japan to promote their previously unreleased songs "Dangerous People" album on "Air Mail Records" of Japan. (They're also working on new music.)
Japan included, Pezband seems to be everywhere again - almost like it's 1973 or 1978 again - with appearances on Mancow and at the recent House of Blues "San Miguel" benefit with legends Jeff Beck & Brian Wilson.
This Saturday, November 9, they're at the new WIRE in Berwyn. Pezband mentions that "WIRE is virtually next door to the long defunct Boston Pub, where we got our start in January 1972." Doors open at 9 p.m. & the show's at 10 p.m.
