Oak Park Arms Reader's Theatre traveled to Triton College

For the first time since the formation of the Oak Park Arms’ Reader’s Theatre earlier this year, the group took its performance on the road with a special presentation of “The Globe” and other materials to Triton College. They performed for the Active Retired Citizen’s Club at Triton College in River Grove, IL.

The majority of members of the Reader’s Theatre are residents of the Oak Park Arms, and they offer a wide variety of performances ranging from ensemble and script readings to poetry solos and adaptations of short stories.

“This is the first time we went off base, and we were very well-accepted,” said Paul Bularzik, leader of the theatre group. “Everyone enjoyed what we did and we had so much fun. It was an overall great experience.”

Bularzik, who was involved with theater in his teens and 20s, has returned to the stage and been leading the group since it was formed almost a year ago. While most of the members are residents at the Arms, the group is always willing to welcome members from the outside community. In fact, they hope to partner with other groups and may do so with young people from the Oak Park Public Library’s teen readers for some intergenerational projects. They have even shared their stage at the Arms with library groups who have used it for practice.

Current members include: Gloria Hannas, Marion Ulrich, Paul Doolin, Marian Menges, Henry Turkowski, Charles Costello, Nancy Elsmo and Marie Munoz.

Visitors are welcome to attend weekly rehearsals at the Oak Park Arms at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
