Tax Appeal Forum on July 23

Oak Park property owners concerned about their property taxes will have an opportunity to do something about next year’s tax bills on July 23.  According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, the Cook County Board of Review will conduct a forum about filing property tax appeals for Oak Park property owners at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 23 in the auditorium at Percy Julian Middle School, 416 S. Ridgeland Avenue.

At the outreach meeting, representatives from the office of Board of Review Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. will explain the appeal process and help residents file appeals.  The meeting is cosponsored by the offices of the Oak Park Township Assessor and state Senator Don Harmon.

Prior information from the Township Assessor’s office erroneously indicated that the Board of Review meeting would take place on July 26.  The correct date, however, is July 23.

The meeting will take place before the Board of Review officially opens the 2013 appeal period for Oak Park.  When the thirty day appeal period officially opens, the Township Assessor’s office will be available to help residents prepare evidence to substantiate their appeals.  Assessor ElSaffar expects the Oak Park appeal period will officially open at some time in August, and will alert residents when the opening date is announced.

Release Date:  July 15, 2013
