Oak Park police reports, June 8-11

TUESDAY, JUNE 11

DNA Test Leads to Residential Burglary Arrest

A DNA test of blood found at the scene of an April 2011 burglary in the 100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue returned a match for Brian Soper, 47, of Bensenville, police said. Soper, was charged with the residential burglary around 1:20 p.m. at his home and held for bond hearings.

Electronics, Power Tools Stolen

A resident in the 0-100 block of Garfield Avenue reported someone used a cutting tool to break into storage units and stole electronics and power tools between 10:30 p.m. June 10 and 7 a.m. June 11. The total estimated loss is $420, police said. 

Cell Phone Stolen

Security footage at a business in the 300 block of Chicago Avenue showed a woman stealing a cell phone around 3:30 p.m. The total estimated loss is $310. 

Man Arrested for Stealing Tequila

Police charged Paul Turner, 20, of Chicago with retail theft around 7 p.m. at Dominick's, 259 Lake St. Police said Turner stole a bottle of tequila and also had a warrant out of DuPage County for possession of a controlled substance. He was processed and held on bond. 

Patio Chairs Stolen

  • Someone stole two patio chairs from a patio in the 700 block of South East Avenue between about 7 and 8 p.m. The total estimated loss is $500, police said. 
  • A resident in the 500 block of North Marion Street reported someone stole four patio chairs from their yard between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The total estimated loss is $900, police said. 
MONDAY, JUNE 10

Car Break-in

Someone ransacked the inside of an unlocked Mazda in the 700 block of South Elmwood Avenue between about 9 p.m. June 9 and 1 p.m. June 10. Nothing was reported stolen, police said. 

SATURDAY, JUNE 8

Warrant: Driving on a Suspended License

Police charged Cornelius Louis, 63, of Chicago with a warrant for driving on a suspended license around 7 p.m. at the Oak Park Police Department. He was given a July 23 court date and held on $7,500 bond, police said.
