Teens Steal From 9-Year-Old Girl, Armed Robbery: Police Blotter

Oak Park police report attacks in cell phone thefts. One thief pressed a gun into the victim's side while taking his phone, police said.

Teens Steal From 9-year-old Girl

Dimitris Williams, 17, of Chicago and four other Chicago boys were charged with felony theft after they stole an iPhone out of a nine-year-old girl's hand around 7:40 p.m. in the 6000 block of North Avenue.

Sunday, June 9

Armed Robbery

A resident in the 700 block of Fair Oaks Avenue reported armed robbery around 11 p.m. after a man allegedly pressed a black handgun against his side, stole his phone from his pocket and told him to run, police said. The victim told police he was riding his bike near the intersection of Fair Oaks and Augusta avenues when three people approached him from his left and two approached from his right, blocking his path and forcing him to stop. The total estimated loss is $50, police said. 

Cell Phone Theft

A 44-year-old resident reported a teenage boy in a white t-shirt and red basketball shorts grabbed his cell phone and ran around 2 p.m. in the 900 block of Ridgeland Avenue. The estimated loss is $200, police said. 

Friday, June 9

Thief Attacks Teen, Steals Phone

A 15-year-old resident told police a man with dreadlocks tapped him on the shoulder around 11 p.m. in the 300 block of North East Avenue and asked to use his cell phone. When the victim said, "no," the man punched him on the side of his head, continued punching him when he fell to the ground and said, "I have a gun, give me your phone," police said. The man then took the victim's iPhone from his waistband and fled. The total estimated loss is $600, police said.

Robbery

A resident in the 700 block of North Grove Avenue reported four teenage boys attacked him around 11:35 p.m. in the 800 block of Erie Street. One of the teens allegedly demanded his wallet and hit him in the face, prompting the others to follow suit, police said. The victim's iPhone was later recovered in the 400 block of North Kenilworth Avenue, police said.
