Woman Punched in Head, Robbed on Jackson, Teen Had Stolen Firearm

Oak Park police reports, Aug. 24-26, including a strong-armed robbery on Jackson, vandalism and an aggravated DUI charge.

MONDAY, AUGUST 26

Teen Charged With Possession of Stolen Firearm

Police charged Jonathan Velasquez, 17, of Chicago, with possession of a stolen firearm and aggravated illegal weapon use. He was arrested in the 1200 block of North Harlem Avenue about 2 a.m., police said. 

Truck, Tools Stolen on Lake

Someone stole a gray Chevy pickup truck and some tools in the 100 block of Lake Street around 10:30 a.m. The total estimated loss is $7,000, police said.

Rocks Thrown Through Windows

  • A man in a light t-shirt, dark pants and a hat threw a rock through a business window in the 6700 block of North Avenue around 2:30 p.m. The estimated cost of damage is $300, police said. 
  • Someone threw an 8- by 8-inch rock through a window of a home in the 100 block of North Cuyler Avenue between 2:45 p.m. Aug. 25 and 9 a.m. Aug. 26. The estimated cost of damage is $800, police said. 

Wallet Stolen From Locker Room

Someone stole a wallet containing an ID, a debit card, a student ID and $10 from a locker in the 1100 block of Lake Street between 2:50 and 3:15 p.m. The total estimated loss is $90, police said. 

Bikes Stolen

  • Someone stole three bikes from an open garage in the 100 block of South Euclid Avenue between 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25 and 7:15 a.m. Aug. 26. The total estimated loss is $1,000, police said. 
  • Someone stole two bikes from an unlocked garage in the 1100 block of South Maple Avenue between 8 a.m. Aug. 12 and 5 p.m. Aug. 26. The total estimated loss is $400, police said.

Grills, Propane Stolen 

Someone stole a grill, a smoker, grill utensils and a propane tank from a courtyard in the 1100 block of Schneider Avenue between 7 and 8 p.m. The total estimated loss is $1,100, police said. 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24

Woman Punched in Face, Robbed on East

A man with blond hair on a BMX bike approached a woman from behind in the 1100 block of South East Avenue, grabbed her purse and punched her in the head numerous times around 4:25 p.m. The offender, who was about 30-40 and 130 pounds, was last seen riding east from the scene. The total estimated loss is $110, police said.

Aggravated DUI

Police charged Erick Fernandez, 27, of Chicago, with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol about 3:35 a.m. in the 6400 block of West Roosevelt Road. 

Stroller Stolen

Someone stole a double stroller from a porch in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue between 5 p.m. Aug. 23 and about midnight Aug. 24. The total estimated loss is $700, police said.

Statue Damaged

Someone knocked over a decorative stone statue onto a driveway in the 400 block of North Linden Avenue around 3 a.m. The total estimated loss is $1,000, police said. 

Car Damage

Someone scratched the windshield and hood of a gray Toyota Corolla in the 1100 block of Woodbine Avenue between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and 9 a.m. Aug. 24. The estimated cost of damage is $300, police said.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23

Break-in Attempt

Someone tried to break into a garden apartment in the 500 block of South Austin Boulevard between about noon and 7 p.m.

Man Arrested, Took 483 Grams of Pot From Package

Police charged Vasily Baycharovv, 26, of the 500 block of South Oak Park Avenue with marijuana possession after someone saw him take 483 grams of marijuana from a postal package in the 400 block of South Kenilworth Avenue around 1:15 p.m.

Wallet Stolen

Someone stole a wallet from an unattended purse in the 800 block of Madison Street between 8 and 10 p.m. The total estimated loss is $175, police said.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22 

Bike Stolen

Someone stole a boys’ bike from a yard in the 700 block of North Elmwood Avenue between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. The total estimated loss is $200, police said.
