Village 'Sets Stage' for Brewpubs to Open in Oak Park

Plan Commission to review ordinance allowing brewpubs to set up shop after "several inquiries" about opening in Oak Park.

Village Board members on Monday backed a proposed ordinance to allow brewpubs to set up shop in Oak Park to "set the stage" for any businesses that want to brew in Oak Park.

According to a document given to the board, village staff has received "several" inquiries from brewpub owners interested in opening in Oak Park. Village Planner Craig Failor said staff "wants to be proactive in setting the stage for entry if and when that occurs."

The new ordinance would require a new liquor license classification that would be created by amendments to the Alcoholic Liquor Dealer's Code.

The board voted 5-0 to refer the proposal to the Plan Commission in November for a public hearing.
