COMMENTS: Do You Buy an OPRFHS Parking Pass?

We asked readers on Facebook: Do you buy the $240 parking pass for your Oak Park and River Forest High School student? If not, do they bike? Walk? Take the bus? What works?

With a new school year starting in less than two weeks, Patch has been working to provide you with as much information as possible that would be helpful for your back-to-school preparations.

While looking at school fees, we learned Oak Park and River Forest High School students can buy parking passes until Aug. 16 for $240. Parking in Oak Park is a topic of conversation, so, we asked readers on Facebook: What do you do about your child's driving situation in Oak Park? Do you buy the permit? What if they run out? Do a lot of students bike?

Here are the responses we received:

  • Jolyn said, "No, they can walk; bike, take a bus!"
  • Jim said, "I own a four flat in Oak Park and its no park Oak Park."
  • Violeta said, "My 3 kids went to Oak Park and River Forest High School in the past 6 years, they all parked on streets around the school. One had a free permit in the parking lot never used though, too much hassle there. Do not panic..."
  • Artemis said, "Parking has been a problem in Oak Park for as long as I can remember."
  • Patti said, "We always walked or took the bus... Why do we need to drive??"
  • Laura said, "There was no parking lot when my kids went to OPRF—Kids biked, walked, book bus or got a ride (from) a friend."
  • Greenline Wheels said, "We highly recommend biking (no surprise)—just make sure to get a good lock!"
