Victim's Yell for Help in Aggravated Robbery Attempt Leads to Arrest in Oak Park

Other recent Oak Park police reports: $3,950 in electronics, jewels and car keys stolen in burglary on Taylor; Teen arrested for stealing bike had hedge trimmers in his pocket.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6

Attempted Aggravated Robbery

Police charged Bobby Donley, 29, of Bellwood with attempted aggravated robbery after he placed a hard object on a man's back and tried to rob him in the 700 block of South Kenilworth Avenue about 7:45 p.m. 

The victim yelled for help when Donley approached him from behind and said, "Just do this. Don't say anything," police said. Donley fled north, to the 600 block of South Kenilworth, where he was arrested. He was processed and held on bond.

Bike Thief Had Hedge Trimmers in Pocket

Thomas Spraggins, 19, of Chicago, was arrested for stealing a bike in the 200 block of Washington Boulevard about 1 p.m.

Police responded to a call about a suspicious person going back and forth between buildings in the 300 block of Wesley, where they found Spraggins near a bike with a cut padlock, police said. Police said he also had a pair of hedge trimmers in his pocket, and later admitted to stealing the bike. He was processed and held on bond. 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7

2 Steal Chips, Hawaiian Punch From Gas Station

Two males in their early 20s stole six bags of Fritos and four Hawaiian Punch drinks from a Shell gas station at 6129 North Ave. about 2:40 a.m. The total estimated loss is about $13, police said. 

$4K in Electronics, Jewels Stolen in Burglary

Someone used a pry tool to break into a home in the 500 block of North Taylor Avenue and stole a Kindle notebook, $400 cash, a laptop, two iPods, jewelry, a bike and car keys to a 1998 BMW and a 2011 Subaru between 9 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. The total estimated loss is $3,950, police said. 

Office Break-in on Harlem

Someone broke into a chiropractor's office in the 1500 block of North Harlem Avenue and put the cash from the cash box in a file cabinet between 7:40 p.m. Oct. 4 and 8:10 a.m. Oct. 7. The loss is unknown, police said. 

Teen Arrested for Battery

Police charged a 16-year-old Oak Park male with battery for an offense that occurred Sept. 16 in the 200 block of North Scoville Avenue.
